Sweep .500, Sweep .500

The Red Sox came into the game with a 19-20 record. A win would make the Red Sox reach the .500 milestone for the first time this year. The Sox were also threatening a sweep against their rivals, the New York Yankees. Jon Lester, the Red Sox ace, pitched the final game against Garcia. Lester would struggle through the first two innings, giving up 4 runs on 2 home runs and an RBI single. The Red Sox would get a run in the second inning by a sac fly from Jed Lowrie, scoring Kevin Youkilis from third base. In the top of the third inning, after Jon Lester gave up 3 runs on 2 homers, Kevin Youkilis would again help in tying the game. This time, he would be a batter, not a base runner. In a 7 pitch at-bat, Youkilis would hit a three run homer to left field, tying the game up at 4. David Ortiz would break up the tie in the 5th inning with a solo home run. In the 7th inning, both teams would score 1 run on an error. The Red Sox would get the final laugh with a solo home run from Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Jon Lester would leave after 6, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits (2 were home runs), and 4 walks. Lester also struck out 7 batters.
